(6,7) There are several possible explanations for poor growth in those children, they may include:  Low caloric intake.  Type of cardiac lesion.  Chronic hypoxemia.  Malabsorption.  Hypermetabolism.  Others.  1. Inadequate caloric intake appears to be the most important cause of growth failure in CHD. [7]
