Intrinsic stability study of L-α-glycerylphosphorylcholine with HPLC method development and validation.

•An HPLC method was developed to evaluate the intrinsic stability of L-α-glycerylphosphorylcholine (L-α-GPC).•The HPLC method was validated with respect to precision, accuracy and robustness.•L-α-GPC was stable under photolysis, thermal, oxidative and acidic conditions.•L-α-GPC degrades under alkaline conditions due to the specific breakage of characteristic phosphate ester bond.•A preliminary kinetics study for the degradation was conducted with the rate constant and half-life calculated.
