Estimation of near-bed sediment concentrations in turbulent flow beyond normality

•A stochastic flow field was established using the first four statistical moments of fluctuation velocity.•Consideration of the stochastic alignment of bed particles included particle size distribution and probabilistic exposure height.•Particle position variance in the vertical direction was mainly determined using fluctuation velocity and collisions.
