Sex-differences in echocardiographic assessment of aortic valve in young adult LDLr−/−/ApoB100/100/IGF-II+/− mice

•Peak jet velocity >140cm/s and Indexed valve area <1cm2/m2 in LDLr/ApoB/IGF-II mouse represent a significant aortic stenosis.•Male seems to have higher velocities and lower valve area than female; gonadectomy seems to attenuate these sex-differences.•Higher normal values could be dues to a higher flow in males or early initiation of calcific aortic valve disease in males.
