Empagliflozin decreases the plasma concentration of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in patients with type 2 diabetes: Association with improvement of fibrinolysis

•Empagliflozin reduced plasma concentrations of PAI-1 in people with type 2 diabetes.•Lowering-effects of PAI-1 by empagliflozin was associated with enhancement of fibrinolytic activity.•The beneficial effects of empagliflozin on fibrinolysis system may be associated with reduced atherothrombotic events.
