The impact of e-cycling on travel behaviour: A scoping review

•E-bikes increase the frequency and duration of cycling compared to conventional bikes.•Uptake of e-cycling largely substitutes for conventional cycling or private car journeys.•E-bikes are primarily used for utilitarian purposes, with older adults also using e-bikes for recreation.•E-cycling promotion campaigns should be guided by evidence on the purpose of e-cycling and factors associated with e-bike use.
