•Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) is a progressive and devastating condition with no specific treatment.•Cyclooxygenase inhibition with nitric oxide release, and endothelin receptor blockade improved the intestinal I/R injury.•Tezosentan was found to be the most effective drug among others to reverse the effects of intestinal I/R injury.
