Patients with epilepsy experience an excess burden of morbidity and mortality. Premature death occurs at twice the rate expected for age, and sudden unexplained death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the leading epilepsy-related cause of death. 1 Sillanpää M. Shinnar S.
