Results of a mindfulness intervention feasibility study among elder African American women: A qualitative analysis.

•African Americans suffer from health disparities that may be due to stress.•Stress in African American communities looks different than white communities.•Much of the stress experienced by African Americans is historically-based.•Interventions to address stress in this community must take into account the unique perspectives of the African American community.•Concepts of surviving and thriving may be used in mindfulness interventions to develop culturally informed stress reduction.
