Deep brain stimulation in the management of paediatric neuropsychiatric conditions: Current evidence and future directions

•There are encouraging results in the field of DBS for selected psychiatric conditions in adults.•Evidence is less clear in the children and studies so far have focused onTourette, Eating Disorders and Aggressive Behaviour.•Multidisciplinary approach to address patient selection and ethical considerations is essential.•future trials should consider the long-term effects of neuromodulation on neuroplasticity to determine evaluation time points.•Well conducted large trials are required to define the role of DBS in children with psychiatric disorders.
