•Bioactive glass 70SiO2-30CaO was successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method.•Synthetic process is simple, short time consuming and environmentally friendly.•Bioactivity of synthetic bioactive glass was confirmed after immersion in SBF for 7 days.
