An innovative surfactant-assisted hydrothermal method for preparing CoG@F127/GO. Two derivatives, atypical core–shell Co-C/GO and cobblestone-like Co2P2O7-C/GO as twin flowers, are assembled into an overall water splitting electrolytic cell.
