D-STATE PARAMETER DETERMINATIONS FOR HE-3 AND HE-4

Determinations of the asymptotic D/S-state ratio for He-3 (eta(He-3) using the (d, He-3) reaction and D2(He-4) using the (d, alpha) reaction are being conducted. An attempt is made to extract D-state information using exact finite-range DWBA calculations with few free parameters. The sensitivity of calculations to factors such as optical model parameters, overlap function and choice of transition is examined. Cases discussed are the S-32 polarized (d, He-3)P-31 reaction at E(d) = 16 MeV and Ni-58 polarized (d, alpha) Co-565 at E(d) = 22 MeV.
