MODELING ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS IN MAS

Institutions and Organizations are two concepts within the MAS community that are commonly referred to when the question arises on how to ensure that an (open) MAS exhibits some desired properties, while the agents interacting in that MAS have some degree of autonomy at the same time. This chapter gives a brief introduction to the two concepts and its related ideas. It outlines research done in the area of normative MAS and gives pointers on current challenges for modeling institutions and organizations.
