Landslide Early Warning System and Web Tools for Real-Time Scenarios and for Distribution of Warning Messages in Norway

The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) runs a national landslide early warning system to assist road and railways authorities as well as local authorities and policy makers in taking measures before potentially dangerous events occur. At the time when the system was in its testing phase, it provided good forecasting of landslides that took place between March and July 2012, and May 2013. The system uses xgeo. no, regObs. no and varsom. no which are three important web tools that assist forecasters in (a) collecting hydro-meteorological observed data and quantitative prognosis used in the prediction and the monitoring phase, (b) in collecting real-time landslide events from field observations and (c) in elaborating alert messages that are distributed to the authorities and the public in general.
