Studying collective nuclear excitations with fast neutrons: a comparison of Ge-76 and Se-76

The low-lying, low-spin level structures of Ge-76 and Se-76 were studied with the (n,n'gamma) reaction. Gamma-ray excitation function and angular distribution measurements were performed, and level spins, level lifetimes, gamma-ray intensities, and multipole mixing ratios were determined. Large observed B(E2) values support the identification of low-lying band structures.
