Pinus thunbergii PARL leaf protects against alcohol-induced liver disease by enhancing antioxidant defense mechanism in BALB/c mice

•The hepatoprotective effects of the extract of Pinus thunbergii (PTE) were studied.•PTE reduced the levels of serum hepatic marker enzymes in liver.•PTE restored the levels of antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation in liver.•Histopathological data showed less lipid droplets and hepatic tissue damage.•35 compounds were tentatively identified by QTOF-MS/MS from PTE.
