Assessing similarity in handwritten texts

•Our work address how much variability is enough to represent specific handwriting.•We compared written text similarity between two samples with distinct sizes.•We statistically show that both samples are alike for lower case letters and digits.•Our finding allows handwriting techniques to reduce their sampling texts sizes.•The handwriting data collected from the pen-and-paper tablet is publicly available.
