•1% nanoparticles (Fe2O3) was introduced as a burning rate modifier.•Burning rate decreases as the percentage of binder increases in the composition.•Burning rate of the propellant enhanced by around 60%.•Increase the tensile strength, shore hardness and density of propellant formulation.
