Sida cordifolia Linn. (Malvaceae) is a perennial Shrub widely distributed all over the India in tropical and subtropical regions, commonly Known as Bala. It has extensive variety of Pharmacological and therapeutic uses like antihypertensive, analgesic, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory along with hypoglycemic properties. The utilization of this plant as medicines date back to prehistoric period. In many folk books including Ayurveda, usefulness of this plant is described along with the isolation of its phytoconstituents. The present study is an attempt to evaluate Pharmacognostical parameters of root powder of S.cordifolia Linn. This study includes morphological and microscopically characterization beside with estimation of physico-chemical parameters like Loss on drying, Ash values, Foreign matter, pH, extractive value in various solvents and Fluorescence behavior of roots of S. cordifola Linn. Preliminary phytochemical analysis of petroleum ether, chloroform and ethanol extracts was also performed to detect presence of class of various phytoconstituents. The data generated from present study will offer the correct information for the identification and authentication of herbal plants and may also prevent adulteration.
