•Twenty-eight cinnamon samples were analysed with high-field and low-field NMR.•Pros and cons of low-field NMR for quality control of cinnamon are discussed.•PLS regression on low-field NMR data allows to predict quantification.•Cinnamon samples at risk for consumers could be detected using low-field NMR.
