Study of microbial melanin decolorization from carbonatic stones surfaces

•Partial or complete decoloration of stains due to melanins is difficult.•Sodium percarbonate and carbamide peroxide reduce the color of the stain.•The combination with a gel allowed the treatment on marble from Vatican Gardens.
