Canopy wetness in the Eastern Amazon

•Eastern Amazon rainforest canopy is partially to wholly wet for 66% of the time.•Dew accounts for 50% of canopy wetness in the dry season and 40% in the wet season.•The upper canopy is wet for a longer duration than the lower canopy.•A meteorological data-based physical model captures 48% of the variance in canopy wetness.•A beta regression captures 55% of the variance in canopy wetness.
