Mutual Neutralization in Cl- + C+ Collisions

The mutual neutralization reaction of Cl- + C+ -> Cl + C is studied from first principles. The cross section and the thermal rate coefficient are calculated for low collision energies, and the effect of spin-orbit coupling is estimated using a semi-empirical method. Recent experiment has measured a thermal rate coefficient [I], which allows for a comparison between theoretical and experimental studies of the reaction.
