Abstract
Introduction: The Premature Rupture Fetal Membranes (RPM) is one the most common maternal complications, the aim of our study was To describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of Premature Rupture Fetal Membranes in young pregnant served in the Essalud III Jose Cayetano Heredia Hospital during 2013. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective, observational study was performed at the Essalud III Jose Cayetano Heredia Hospital-Piura. The population consisted of recording medical histories of young pregnant women, 15 to 24 years, diagnosed with RPM was assisted in the Service of Gynecology-Obstetrics in 2013. A census tract convenience sampling was performed. The variables were: general characteristics of pregnant women, gynecological and obstetric history, current pregnancy characteristics, classification of premature rupture of membranes, maternal complications and perinatal complications. Descriptive statistics were applied using SPSS software 18.00. Results: The prevalence of RPM in the study population was 14.45%; the median age was 21 years old, the most common occupation was housewife (61.7%); 65.2% of the study population were primigesta, 24.3% had a short interpregnancy period, the median gestational age was 37 weeks, term RPM was the most frequent (61.7%). The most frequent maternal complication was oligohydramnios (29.6%) and the most common perinatal complication was prematurity (40.3%). Conclusions: The RPM is very common maternal complication in the study population has particular clinical and epidemiological features and the most frequent complications were oligohydramnios and prematurity.
