•Pt@ZSM-5 with different amount of sodium ion were synthesized.•Sodium ion promotes the formation of Pt-Ox(OH)yNa species.•Pt@ZSM-5 catalyst with introduction of 1%wt Na shows highest catalytic performance.•Sodium ion improves the dispersity and stability of Pt encapsulated within in ZSM-5.
