A simple and effective determination of methyl red in wastewater samples by UV–Vis spectrophotometer with matrix matching calibration strategy after vortex assisted deep eutectic solvent based liquid phase extraction and evaluation of green profile

•A simple and accurate method was developed using a green extraction solvent.•LOD and LOQ values were calculated as 2.3 and 7.5 µg/L, respectively.•35-folds improvement in the detection power was recorded when compared to conventional UV–Vis spectrophotometry measurements.•Recovery studies performed on wastewater samples were satisfactory.
