The choice of terrestrial fiber is found to have a significant impact on transmission performance, The SNR advantage enabled by newer, ultra-low-loss fibers compared to legacy G.655 fibers is determined to be as high as 4.5 dB, although substantial transmission scenario dependent variabilities are observed.
