Critical Illness Myopathy Precedes Hyperglycaemia and High Glucose Variability.

•This study assesses the relationship between blood glucose variability and the incidence of Critical Illness Myopathy.•Of the 74 patients included, 50 showed signs of CIM.•Significant differences in glucose variability were only observed on or after the 5th day of intensive care treatment.•A late increase in glucose variability and hyperglycaemia in CIM patients suggests that myopathy precedes dysglycaemia.
