Green synthesis of ternary carbon dots (CDs)/MIL-88B (Fe)/Bi2S3 nanocomposite via MOF templating as a reusable heterogeneous nanocatalyst and nano-photocatalyst

•The heterogeneous ternary CDs/MIL-88B (Fe)/Bi2S3 nanocomposite was synthesized by a multistep method.•MOF templating as a systemic method for limited size CDs formation inside MIL-88B (Fe) pores.•CDs/MIL-88B (Fe)/Bi2S3 indicated the extraordinary performance as catalyst and photocatalyst.•Reduction of p-NP and degradation dyes was considered to follow a pseudo-first-order kinetic.
