Radar Waveform Coexistence: Interference Comparison on Multiple-Frame Basis

In this paper, radar-to-radar interference across different waveforms (FMCW, PMCW and OFDM) is studied. Practical implementations having similar radar parameters and application objectives are simulated to provide a fair and realistic comparison. The interference effects are presented on multiple consecutive radar frames for all possible combinations of waveforms, where the interference-induced noise floor after Range-Doppler processing are computed and compared. This paper shows that there is no perfect waveform that is robust to any interfering waveform, although OFDM radar appears to have a less fluctuating noise floor and appears to be more robust to PMCW and OFDM radar for the selected radar configurations.
