Refined Characterization of Internet of Things Applications in Power Systems

With the accelerating development of the Internet of Things (IoT), its applications in power system are gradually becoming various and comphcated, followed by the diversity of relevant technical requirements. In order to identify the characteristics of these requirements of IoT in power system, this paper proposes a refined characterization approach to define, classify and summarize them from three different aspects, namely, performance-criticaL security-critical and reachability critical. In multiple IoT enabled apphcation scenarios, performance-critical index and security-critical index mainly focus on data transmission and calculation, while reachability-critical index focuses on the communication coverage and quality of service, which creates a new perspective to characterize power system IoT applications and their technical requirements.
