Comparative evaluation of the Bruker Biotyper and Vitek MS matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) systems for non-albicans Candida and uncommon yeast isolates

•Both MALDI MS systems gave a high level of correct identification for yeasts.•MALDI Biotyper identified more isolates but requires ethanol-formic acid extraction.•≥1.7 scores are accepted as a reliable result at the species level for MALDI Biotyper.•Library version affects the sensitivity of identification.
