Revealing the multi-stage ore-forming history of a mineral deposit using pyrite geochemistry and machine learning-based data interpretation

•Pyrite trace element discriminator were trained with machine learning methods.•It can discriminate pyrite from sedimentary rocks, VHMS, and orogenic deposits.•The multistage ore-forming of the Jiashengpan is revealed by the discriminator.
