Abstract
Catalyst play a vital role in environmental benign organic transformation since sustainable eco-friendly synthesis always aims to deployed principles of green chemistry. Graphene oxide and functionalized graphene oxide are promising 2D materials that meet the requirement of a sustainable green catalyst due to their extraordinary characteristics like high electrical conductivity, unique electronic structure with zero bandgaps, and high surface-to-volume ratio. This mini-review comprehensively and critically reviews graphene oxide and functionalized graphene oxide as heterogenous catalyst for synthesis of medicinally and biologically relevant heterocyclic motifs. We also emphasize on synthesis and properties of various functionalized graphene materials in brief along with unique role and advantage of graphene materials in the synthesis of different heterocyclic scaffolds.
