Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna Development Using Various Materials

The development of modern mobile & wireless communication systems and the introduction of software-defined radios the demand for multiple frequencies into a single device or system is growing; reconfigurable antennas are the backbones of such systems. In this research, a novel frequency reconfigurable antenna developed by using radiofrequency interference (RFI) shielding gasket, thin glass-sheet, and a piece of FR4 glass-reinforced epoxy laminate. These materials placed at various distances away from the microstrip (MS) patch antenna using a linear actuator; to alter the bandwidth of the patch antenna, the location of the materials changed using the linear actuator. An alternate method has also proposed in this research to find the optimal radome material and gap between the antenna radiator and radome (or antenna housing/casing).
