The intravenous administration of skin-derived mesenchymal stem cells ameliorates hearing loss and preserves cochlear hair cells in cisplatin-injected mice: SMSCs ameliorate hearing loss and preserve outer hair cells in mice

•SMSCs treatment could significantly ameliorate hearing loss and preserve cochlear hair cells in cisplatin-injected mice•SMSCs treatment reduced the loss of outer hair cells and upregulated the mRNA expression of genes involved in cochlear tissue repair.•Our data suggested the values of SMSCs for future clinical application in the protection of hearing loss.
