Exomphalos with intestinal fistulation: Case series and systematic review for clinical characterization, management and embryopathogenesis

•Only 28 cases of exomphalos with intestinal fistulation (EIF) are reported.•The commonest phenotype involves an exomphalos minor (82%).•Fistulated bowel mostly involves the vitellinointestinal duct (89%).•Primary closure was used in all but one case (96%).•Congenital associated anomalies are common (43%).
