•GDM prevalence in women with COVID-19 is approximately 7.5–11.6%.•Cough was the most common clinical presentation of COVID-19 among women with GDM.•Maternal prognosis depends on mother’s age, comorbidities and severity of COVID-19.•Newborn prognosis is usually good but highly depends on maternal complications.
