Prescribing in a pediatric hospital setting – Lost in translation?

•Medication errors in pediatric practice are common and can cause serious harm.•Specific directions, e.g. administer with/without food were perceived to be beneficial.•Explicit phrasing of dosing intervals/times were more easily interpreted e.g. mealtime intervals.•Simpler and common terminology enhanced understanding e.g. mL preferred to milliliters.•.•Guidelines are needed for wording of pediatric prescription medication advice labels.
