Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy and Surgical Excision for Locally Recurrent Gastrointestinal Cancers: Initial Results of a Single-Institution Registry

In patients treated with surgical excision and IORT for locally recurrent GI cancer, the ability to achieve a clear resection margin is a critical determinant of in-field local control. Patient selection should consider the chance for R0 resection, as well as the risk of regional or distant progression, when evaluating patients for this aggressive multi-modal treatment.
