Convolutional neural network model for soil moisture prediction and its transferability analysis based on laboratory Vis-NIR spectral data

•CNN models were transferred to other different areas on different conditions.•SNV is the best spectral preprocessing method for SM inversion in model migration.•CNN model has stronger transferability even for different measurement conditions.•The knowledge-based transferability of CNN model make it have broad prospects.
