摘要
Measurement of particle surface area concentration may be important due to its relationship with the biological response, based on some reported toxicological studies. The objective of the current study is to establish a method for measuring the surface area of aerosol particles emitted from stationary sources. We found that (i) the surface area concentration measured by a monitor system is proportional to the number concentration and the number of charges of suspended SiO2 (aerosol) particles is not dependent on its aggregation state, (ii) two different surface area monitor systems are able to measure the surface area of aerosol particles emitted from a combustion-based stationary source. The measured values are lower than geometric surface area which calculated by integration of particle number concentration as a function of particle size measured by a DMA and CPC/CNC system.
