Assessment Of Changes In Self-Control Among Patients With Type 2 Diabetes After The Introduction Of Insulin Therapy - A Prospective Study

Background. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes related to self control among patients undergoing treatment intensification.Material and methods. The study included 68 patients with type 2 diabetes, 30 women and 22 men aged 44-79 years. Patients' treatment was intensified by adding insulin to previously used drugs and they underwent an 8-month long (+/- 1.5) observation. The authorship questionnaire was used, The assessment was based on the opinions of 52 patients who returned the second questionnaire after a period of observation.Results. The percentage of patients declaring daily blood glucose measurements rose to 73.1% = 38) from 28.9% In = 15) prior to the intensification of treatment (p = 0.00002). The percentage of people who declared adhering to the guidelines of the diet (often or constantly) was 84.6% (n = 44) vs 50% (n = 26) prior to modification of therapy.Conclusions. Under the influence of intensification of treatment, there was a significant improvement in the application of self-control which is an extremely important in the context of improving metabolic control, giving a chance to avoid the complications of the disease.
