Congenital Orbital Teratoma - Report Of A Case

The Authors describe a case of congenital orbital teratoma in a newborn, born at term by a uncomplicated pregnancy, weighting 3300 g and presenting from birth an extreme protrusion of the bulb (6 x 6 cm, with a tense and elastic consistency). The diagnosis and definition of the relations between the mass and the surrounding structures were obtained by US, CT, RM, and carotid angiography. Conservative surgery was not possible, since the ocular structures were affected by the disease. Surgery consisted of mass exeresis. Histology confirmed the diagnosis of teratoma consisting of tissues derived from all three germinal layers.
