Formation Conditions And Resource Prospect Of Natural Gas Hydrate In Muli Coalfield, Qinghai Province, China

Since researched the potential of natural gas hydrate in Qinghai-Tibet plateau permafrost for many years, a breakthrough has achieved in Muli coalfield of Qilian Mountain, Qinghai province. Gas hydrates samples were successfully obtained by drilling which made China to be the country which firstly discovers gas hydrate in the permafrost of the medium and low latitudes. This paper demonstrated on the inevitability and the particularity of formation conditions of natural gas hydrate in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, then analyzed geological background, permafrost conditions, gas components and sources, at last summarized the process of reservoir formation and major control factors of natural gas hydrate in Muli areas. All in all, this study can help to deepen understanding reservoir formed rules of natural gas hydrate in mid-low latitude coal-bearing permafrost, and will provide the scientific basis to find natural gas hydrate resources in similar regions.
