Automation and intellectualization in mechanical manufacturing process has been the developing trend these years. As staged achievement of intelligent vehicle in mechanical manufacturing field, a system of obstacle avoidance for 6WD (6-wheel drive) vehicle was designed based on Arduino. Obstacle information is obtained by ultrasonic distance-measuring module and infrared sensor. The personal computer (PC) control interface was designed to control the vehicle using Visual Basic 6.0 software. The scene video transmitted to PC by IP Camera via WiFi. The system is able to complete obstacle avoidance task autonomously in experiment. The results demonstrate that the system is simple, efficient and convenient. Both the hardware and software operate well with each other and the obstacle avoidance system designed is feasible.
