Short Ceramic Fiber Based Interlock Frame Works Prepared By Freeze Casting

Freeze casting was used to fabricate interlock frame works with mullite fibers of hundred microns in length. The slurry of fibers and silica sol suspensions were frozen at -50 degrees C and the ice crystal was sublimated under the condition of T=-50 degrees C and P=10 Pa. Then the received fresh networks were fired at 1500 degrees C to get the products. The results show that compared with filtration, freeze casting is helpful to keep the original three-dimensional dispersion, the frame work with bulk density is about 0.31 g/cm(-3), and the compression strength about 1.30 MPa is obtained at 5% silica sol and 2vol% fibers loading.
