摘要
Because of its multiple advantages and convenience, ruby fluorescence method for pressure measurements is an interesting topic in science and engineering today. This technique is based on an existing proportional relation, in between pressure and temperature conditions, and reflected wavelength variations produced by excite ruby with laser. Its non reactive nature to a wide range of compounds, creates the possibility of adding ruby for pressure measurements without causing experimental complications when combined with materials subjected to analysis. Furthermore, to be reduced into extremely small particles, makes ruby accessible in areas with microscopic dimensions.Precision of ruby fluorescence method is approximately +/- 0,5% for measurements below 20 GPa under hydrostatic conditions, with possibilities to be adjusted for other ranges of interest. This study provides not only a theoretical approach of the method. A sample of ruby is analyzed at different pressures and temperatures inside a diamond anvil cell, showing ruby's behavior. The purpose is to demonstrate the importance of this experimental technique and how the tests are commonly performed. Data acquisitions and analysis are also explained.
