Modified Asphalt With Carbon Black From Scrap Tire Pyrolysis
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORTATION AND DEVELOPMENT 2020 - HIGHWAY AND AIRFIELD PAVEMENTS(2020)
摘要
Asphalt modification could be a solution to premature failure like the development of early cracks, potholes, rutting problems, etc. One of the most effective modifiers used in previous researches is pyrolysis carbon black (PCB). It is a by-product of the pyrolysis process of scrap tire. Using this by-product as a modifier can contribute to both premature pavement failure as well as a waste management problem. The main goal of this research is to investigate the effect of PCB on Marshall and the bituminous mix. Basing on the previous research results, the percentages of PCB selected are 5%, 10%, and 15%, respectively. Marshall mix with 5% PCB has a stability of 26.8 KN, which is around 47% greater than that of the unmodified mix. This study reveals that modification of asphalt mixes with PCB can mitigate the premature failure problem of HMA pavement to some extent by increasing high-temperature susceptibility, load bearing capacity, etc.
